School gave me hell this week. No mercy. I hit it hard and actually ended up getting everything done early. Go me! Since I had a little extra time on my hands I decided to start cleaning. I don’t mean the regular household chores… I mean the… I’m moving 2500 miles in 2.5 months type of cleaning. I thought I got rid of everything I owned when I moved to California from New York. Either I accumulated a lot more shit over the last year than I thought, or I didn’t scale down as much as I thought I did in 2008.
For example, I went through my bandannas. They were not all in the same place, so I found them all, then I organized and folded them all. When all was said and done, I counted 38 bandannas in total. An assortment of varying colors, and patterns – some dupes, but only the very basic colors like black, white and blue. It was a beautiful array, but I was hard pressed to figure out why anyone… let only myself, would need 38 bandannas. I thought maybe I could sew them all together and make a poncho or or a blanket. I think I wore bandannas a lot more when I lived in New York. I figure they’ll come in handy one way or the other in Alaska… so I bagged them and made a mental note not to buy any more bandannas for as long as I live. I’m covered.
I also got in depth with my wardrobe. It serves a purpose. It dresses me. I’m not going to need a lot of frill where I’m headed next… and that freedom is kind of overwhelming. I scaled back considerably. I have a huge box of things to sell and a huge bag of things that I thought would be better donated. I’m still not sure what I’m going to do with my 15 purses. I feel like I need them all. This, after selling at least ten at my last garage sale. I’m really not that gluttonous. It would seem that I am, but this is just accumulation over 11 years. The only accumulation that I have left to part with. That was just in the bedroom. I didn’t have the energy to start sorting my books. I still don’t know what I want to do with them. I know it’s not practical to live the life of a perpetual traveler and have a huge book collection. I would love to send my library back to New York along with some other things… but I know that will be costly.
I have a lot to think about. Enjoy some photos from my walk with Stacy..
